I needed to scout the condition of a few roads for an upcoming tour, so we saddled up and headed for central Utah. It was triple digits on the freeway headed down, then when we arrived in Ephraim, storm clouds were brewing. Typical Utah weather…
We had decided to stop for dinner and the timing could not have been more perfect. It started raining as we got off the bikes and right when we entered the restaurant, the gates of hell opened up.
The storm passed through and we headed up the canyon. On top the weather looked rough and it wasn’t a surprise, we made the decision to give it a try. The dirt got progressively more wet and the rain started. We were riding directly into the storm. Not an ideal situation…
The road got worse the further we went and eventually the mud got REALLY slippery. It was a real challenge to get off the mountain in one piece.
We finally made it over to Joe’s Valley and found a camping spot to call it a night. The next day was much nicer and we jumped on Skyline Drive again at a different location and had a great ride working our way back to Salt Lake City.
To be continued…
