Voxan Wattman Electric Motorcycle

The Voxan Wattman Electric Motorcycle was introduced at the Paris Motorcycle Show. I’m not sure how well this would do for long-distance touring our how comfortable it would be during an all-day ride. You would sure get some looks riding around town and grabbing a gallon of milk though! This motorcycle boasts “200 HP electric shock” and claims to be the most powerful electric motorcycle in the world with instant torque up to 10,500 rpm! Worried about charging? Well this bike can be charged to 80% in less than 30 minutes using a standard household socket. The problem…it’ll only go 112 miles before needing a charge. Not far enough for adventure motorcycle riders.

A few stats on the motor:

  • Max. power : 200 HP  (from 7,500 rpm to 10,500 rpm)
  • Max. torque : 200Nm (from 0 to 6,000 rpm)
  • Max. motor speed : 10,500 rpm

How about the performance of the bike:

  • Max. speed : 170 kph
  • 0-100 : 3.4 s
  • 0-160 : 5.9 s

Pretty cool eh? You can read more about this motorcycle on the Voxan website. Can you imagine taking this machine for a ride? Impressive bike to say the least!

Range aside, this is a very impressive concept bike… I wonder what kind of batteries the bike is using?
There has to be a way to increase the range… BUT a 100 mile range is more than enough for daily use around town… Could the performance be dialed back a little to increase range?.. What about a touring version with full fairing up front and two large hard saddlebags in back, and inside the saddlebags you could house more batteries, and still allow some room for storage space… The trunk, which touring bikes usually have, would house more storage space… With some acceptable compromises, this bike could have a 150 mile range, or more, and that would make it more competitive with the gas burners, because people are willing to make accommodations for an all-electric motorcycle… It is the year 2015, gas bikes shouldn’t forever be the only choice, and they won’t be. There are plenty of great electric motorcycles available now, and I hope to see more… The market for these kind of machines is just beginning.
