Colorado Rocky Mountains

Colorado Rocky Mountains

Well, here is where we ended up riding. We turned about 1250-1300 miles I think? It was a great time and we saw just about every kind of terrain. I’ll have to wait for my riding partners to post some pictures. I forgot my camera.

It was a little nippy (34 degrees) leaving Gunnison, CO yesterday morning. Fall is certainly here already and the leaves are changing all over the Rockies. We really got lucky with the weather. With all the rain clouds around we managed to miss them all somehow. We only hit some rain going down Parleys on the way back to Salt Lake City last night. What a great trip! I would prefer to take 3-4 of these a year.

Thursday afternoon we left SLC and headed up Highway 6 to Moab, However we went a little further up I-70 and took Highway 128 along the river into Moab. Luckily we found a room because we must have called almost 10 places before finding a closet to stay in.

Friday morning we headed down to the La Sal junction and into Colorado. We went through Naturita and stopped in Norwood for breakfast. We then headed to Placerville, Ridgway and then jumped on the 550 and headed for Durango. After a stop at Walmart we jetted over to Pagosa Springs and ate some lunch. We hopped on the bikes after a quick bite and cruised in hopes to make it to Gunnison to find a hotel. We passed through South Fork, Creede, Lake City, Powderhorn and on into Gunnison around 8:30 PM. We found a great hotel, this time with a pool and a much needed jacuzzi.

Saturday morning we headed to Crawford, Hotchkiss for breakfast and then over to Orchard City. Next we headed through some more twisties and over to I-70. We got off at the exit heading to Rangely, Dinosaur and into Vernal. In Vernal we picked up some Lunch/Dinner and headed for home. We took the back roads through Neola, Altamont, Tabiona, Hanna and into Kamas for our final fuel stop. We jetted past Park City with some ominous rain clouds looming and some lightning. We passed through some rain on the way down Parleys canyon and then back home.
